Rep. Frederica Wilson who criticized President Trump’s conversation with the pregnant widow of Army Sgt. La David Johnson who was killed in the line of duty in Niger on October 4, has been receiving threatening calls. The congresswoman cause a national uproar, after revealing the insensitive remarks allegedly said by the president. According to Wilson the president told the grieving widow, “You know that this could happen when you signed up for it…but it still hurts.” The congresswoman’s staff said they alerted the Capital Police, Miami Garden Police and the threat division of the U.S. House of Representatives. Trump also allegedly did not call the solider by his name, instead referring to him as “your guy.” The president has denied making the statements and issued the following, “I did not say what she said. I would like her to make the statement again because I did not say what she said. I had a very nice conversation with the woman, with the wife, who sounded like a lovely woman.” The following morning the president doubled down on his assertion and tweeted, “Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!” The congresswoman responded, “I have proof too. This man is a sick man. He is cold-hearted and he feels no pity or sympathy for anyone.” Wilson added that after the call, the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson said “he didn’t even know his name.” An emotional Chief of Staff, Gen.John Kelly join the fray, telling reporters in a press briefing, ” Most Americans don’t know what happens when we lose one of our soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines or Coast Guardsmen in combat. Their buddies wrap them up in whatever passes as a shroud, puts them on a helicopter as a routine and sends them home. Once at Dover, the bodies are embalmed, then someone “meticulously dresses them in their uniform with the medals that they’ve earned, the emblems of their service and then puts them on another airplane linked up with the casualty officer escort. A casualty officer then makes the solemn call to the home of the family, very early in the morning and waits for the first lights to come on, and then he knocks on the door, typically the mom or dad will answer, and if there is a wife this is happening in two different places, if the parents are divorced, three different places. The casualty officer then proceeds to break the heart of a family member and stays with that family for a long, long time, even after the internment.” Kelly did not want Trump to make those calls. ” If you’re not in the family, if you’ve never worn the uniform, if you’ve never been in combat, you can’t even imagine how to make that call. ” Kelly said, the president expressed his condolences in the best way that he could. Kelly also revealed he was totally stunned that that a member of Congress would not only listen in on the call between the president and Johnson’s wife, but that she would politicize the situation in television interviews afterward. For her part, the congresswoman said this has gone too far. “This shouldn’t be about me. It’s about remembering and honoring this fallen hero and fighting for his family.” Gen. Kelly also lost a son in combat. 1st Lt. Robert M. Kelly, was killed in action in 2010.
