Helter Skelter Fiend Charles Manson Dead At 83.

Helter Skelter Ride

A helter skelter is an amusement ride, typically of wooden construction with a slide built in a spiral around a high tower. Users climb up inside the tower and slide down the outside, usually on a mat or burlap sack. The term was made popular by a song the Beatles released in 1968. Rolling Stones magazine considers it 52nd out 100 of the performers greatest hits. Charles Maddox aka Charlie Manson author of the perverted philosophy of the same name has died of natural causes at California State Prison, Corcoran, in Kings County. In Manson’s view  according to Paul Watkins, a former member of the cult, Helter Skelter was supposed to be a race war between blacks and whites of biblical proportions. Loosely, Manson’s helter skelter describes him and his family as apocalyptic messengers destined to trigger a race war using music to  attract white youth to join the Family, particularly  young, white female hippies out of San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury. Black men, would no longer be able to have relationships white women whom the political changes of the 1960s had made sexually available to them and without an outlet for their frustrations they would lash out in violent crimes against whites. Frightened whites would the take revenge on blacks. The resultant racial violence against the sex starved blacks would then be exploited by the militant blacks to start a race war. Manson surmised that the consequences of this war would almost certainly wipe out the non-black races.  The remaining whites which he had gathered would wait out the war in a secret city that was underneath Death Valley that they would reach through a hole in the ground. As the only actual remaining whites they would come from underground to rule the now-satisfied blacks who would be incapable of running the world. At that point, Manson “would scratch the black man’s fuzzy head and kick him in the butt and tell him to go pick the cotton and go be a good nig@#r.”  The Tate-Labianca murders were at the time thought to be the crime of the century, even  thought by some to surpass the Lindbergh child kidnapping and murder. The following exert is from a Time article describing the  horrific murders. “On Aug. 9 and 10, 1969, two sets of grisly murders took place in Los Angeles. On the 9th, a gang of four people brutally killed the actress Sharon Tate, who was married to director Roman Polanski and eight and a half months pregnant, four of Tate’s friends and the son of her gardener. Tate begged for the life of her unborn child but was told by one of the female assailants, “Look bitch, I don’t care about you. I don’t care if you are having a baby. You are going to die and I don’t feel a thing about it.” Tate’s blood was used to write the word PIG on the home’s front door. The next day supermarket executive Leno LaBianca and his wife were killed in a similar fashion, a fork used to carve the word WAR on his belly left sticking out of his corpse.” Although Manson did not participate in the murders, he and 3 accomplices were found  guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to death. In 1972 California overturned the state’s death penalty statute and his sentence was commuted to life in prison. He has been denied parole 12 times and was scheduled for his next hearing in 2027. Manson spent 46 years in jail before he died of natural causes. He is survived by 2 children.
