What Did I Step In Now?

Chief Of Staff, Gen. John Kelly went where no man should have gone, trying to defend the President against the indefensible. Doubling down on earlier remarks, the Chief Of Staff called out Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Florida, and claimed she tried to take credit for securing “$20 million” in federal funding to build a new FBI field office in Miami in 2015. However video of the event showed that the congresswoman did not take credit, in fact the only credit she took was for helping pass legislation naming the building after two fallen federal agents. Here is a transcript of General Kelly’s statement describing the dedication:

“I was still on active duty, and I went to the dedication of the new FBI field office in Miami. And it was dedicated to two men who were killed in a firefight in Miami against drug traffickers in 1986. … Jim Comey gave an absolutely brilliant memorial speech to those fallen men and to all of the men and women of the FBI who serve our country so well, and law enforcement so well. There were family members there. Some of the children that were there were three or four years old when their dads were killed on that street in Miami-Dade. Three of the men that survived the fight were there, and gave a rendition of how brave those men were and how they gave their lives, and a congresswoman stood up, and in the long tradition of empty barrels making the most noise, stood up there and all of that and talked about how she was instrumental in getting the funding for that building, and how she took care of her constituents because she got the money, and she just called up President Obama, and on that phone call he gave the money, the $20 million to build the building, and she sat down, and we were stunned. Stunned that she had done it. Even for someone that is that empty a barrel, we were stunned. But, you know, none of us went to the press and criticized. None of us stood up and were appalled. We just said, okay, fine.”

Congresswoman Wilson immediately refuted the slander, calling Kelly a liar and adding, “The White House itself is full of white supremacists, I feel very sorry for him because he feels such a need to lie on me and I’m not even his enemy. I just can’t even imagine why he would fabricate something like that. That is absolutely insane. I’m just flabbergasted because it’s very easy to trace. They are making themselves look like fools. They have no credibility. They are trying to assassinate my character, and they are assassinating their own because everything they say is coming out and shown to be a lie.”

Critics have decried the message coming from the White House as racist and sexist. The President also rejoined the fray Thursday tweeting, ” The Fake News is going crazy with wacky Congresswoman Wilson(D), who was SECRETLY  on a very personal call, and gave a total lie on content.” When asked about Kelly’s latest accusation, White House press secretary , Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, “Mr Kelly “absolutely” stands by his remarks.”
