As reported by theRoot.com, Dr Henry Bello went on a gun shooting, molotov throwing, crazed episode yesterday at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital. Five people were critically injured before the doctor shot and killed himself. Theses instances of mass shootings by black folks have increased in frequency over the years, but still fall far short of the mass murders committed by whites.Black mass murders seem to focus their murderous hostility on perceived or not so perceived social injustices. There are exceptions, most notably, the DC Snipers, John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malcolm, whose insane motivations are still a grab bag of WTF. I cannot and will not protect the twisted logic which drives these individuals.I think it is important though we examine the racial, social and financial stresses which drives our people to commit such heinous acts.

Case In Point:

Charles Lee Thornton

On February 7, 2008, Charles Lee Thornton of Kirkwood Missouri, shot eight people, killing six and injuring two. It seems Mr Thornton had a beef with City Hall. He back a bid by the city of Kirkwood to annex Mecham Park, where he lived. Kirkwood municipal law became Mecham Park law. At some point, part of Mecham Park was annex by eminent domain to be turned into a large commercial development. I’m going to let that sit right there for a second, because a lot of you are having a” wait…what..” moment.

Anywho, Mr Thornton owned a construction company and when the contracts started going out, guess who got the crumbs. Now he backed the Kirkwood scheme against many of his neighbors wishes. Naturally when the golden goose started laying eggs, he wanted his fair share. He filed  a complaint with the EEOC for racial discrimination in awarding contracts. Instead of contracts, Mr Thornton started getting citations, for violation of city codes. I’ll be dang.

Eventually Mr Thornton pleaded guilty to six violation and agreed to a plan to bring his property into compliance within a couple years. During this time Mr Thornton was receiving additional citations and was unable to keep up with the payment plan. In the end, Mr Thornton owed the city twenty thousand dollars in fines and court cost and had to declare bankruptcy.  The cost of the Chapter 13 reorganization.. $4500 per month for 5 years. Hush yo mouth!!

Acting as his own attorney,  Mr Thornton sued the city of Kirkwood and in 2005, the Missouri Court of Appeals dismissed his suit for civil rights violations. Yep, home of the East St. Louis Riot in 1917 and Ferguson 2014, dismissed his civil rights case for malicious prosecution. After years of law suits, he refused an offer from the city to forgive his fines, if he would drop his current lawsuit and refrain from disrupting ( insert talking), and attending city council meeting. Like the man says ” I can dig rappin, I’m ready, I can dig scrappin, but I can’t dig that backstabbin, it ain’t right!! “

After numerous additional lawsuits, including a suit asserting his free speech rights were violated because Kirkwood officials prevented him from speaking at public meetings, his lawsuit was finally and unequivocally dismissed by a federal judge. Basically the federal judge said you can’t come into these meeting commenting on personal judgements by the city against you, and hurling personal attacks against members of the city government during the comment portion of public hearings. Sure you right. He could have always made an appointment to discuss his issues with them. I don’t know why he didn’t think of that?

Fast forward a week.

Thornton walks into the Council Chambers and kills a police officer, the public works director, two council members, the mayor and a reporter. He was subsequently shot and killed by police. I do not condone his actions. I will not protect him despite the levity in which this article is written. I’m just saying.
