Being and African American and liberal, it’s beyond my imagination how anyone could side with our government in separating mothers and fathers from their children. Not only conservatives but other liberals are asking the question, ” If you know they are going to separate you from your children, then why do you bring them?”
In 1850 the U.S. Army established a series of military posts across the frontier, designed to stop warfare among Indian tribes or between Indians and settlers. While it eventually worked out, at first it was a disaster. The most dramatic conflict was the Sioux war in Minnesota in 1862, when Dakota tribes systematically attacked German farms in an effort to drive out the settlers. Over a period of several days, Dakota attacks at the Lower Sioux Agency, New Ulm and Hutchinson, slaughtered 300 to 400 white settlers. The state militia fought back and Lincoln sent in federal troops. The ensuing battles at Fort Ridgely, Birch Coulee, Fort Abercrombie, and Wood Lake punctuated a six-week war, which ended in American victory. The federal government tried 425 Indians for murder, and 303 were convicted and sentenced to death. Lincoln pardoned the majority, but 38 leaders were hanged. It was the largest mass hanging in American history. Did these families turn around and go back… nope. We haven’t even thrown in bandits and unforgivable environments. People kept going west, thru all the massacres and lawlessness.
The Shoah or Holocaust begin in 1933, when Nazi’s started to build concentration camps. Later the Nuremberg Laws were passed. Soon after WWII, when 6 million Jews were systematically killed in the hideous camps of death. After the defeat of the Axis powers, European cities were left decimated with limited food and water, living space, all but destroyed. The peoples of Europe looked to the shining city on the hill, America. But everything wasn’t so shiny when they got here. They faced racism, crime, meager wages and poor living conditions. Still they came, the men and women of Europe. They brought their families, their sons and daughters, sisters and brothers.
On April 28, 2018, after hundreds of miles of grueling and relentless trek, a group of asylum seekers reached the boarder of the United States. They flee drug cartels, stifling poverty, corrupt governments food shortages and abysmal living condition. Men and women along with their children, asking the shining city to hear their plea’s. They were arrested and their children were taken from them. Later thousands more joined. They too were arrested and their children taken. The US courts have demanded the Administration return their children. I know some of you think it’s crazy… but they still come, the new settlers.
