2 Students Killed, Over A Dozen Wounded

A 15 yr old boy is the suspect in a school shooting that left 2 dead and over a dozen wounded. The teenager was arrested at the scene after opening fire at Marshall County High School, in Benton, Ky. State Police Commissioner Richard W. Sanders said the suspect, armed with a handgun, walked into the school at the beginning of classes and started shooting. A boy and a girl, both 15 years old, were killed in the attack. The girl died at the scene and the boy died later in the hospital. Marshall County Attorney Jeff Edwards said the suspect will be charged with murder and attempted murder. He also suspects the alleged killer will be charged as an adult after he is indicted by a grand jury. Five students were taken to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, about 100 miles away by helicopter. Three of them were shot in the head, one in the arm and one in the abdomen according to the Medical Director of the trauma intensive care unit. Details of the other victims injuries have not been released. One of the victims shot in the head is one of the deceased. Gov. Matt Bevin said, “These children belong to this community, and to specific families in this community, and this is a wound that is going to take a long time to heal, and for some in this community, will never fully heal.” Our prayers are with the parents of the slain children and the victims of this senseless tragedy.
