Lamb Defeats GOP In Trump Country

It all said and done. Conor Lamb went into the lions den and came out victorious. Conor Lamb, a Democrat and former Marine, scored an extraordinary upset in a special House election in Pennsylvania after a few thousand absentee ballots cemented a Democratic victory in the heart of Northern Dixie. The race stretched into Wednesday, when CNN reported Lamb was in the lead with 627 votes, with 100 percent of precincts reporting. State law does not mandate a recount in district-level elections. Conventional wisdom suggested that Saccone,  a candidate who once declared himself “Trump before Trump was Trump”, would do well in a district that the President won by 20 points against Hillary Clinton in 2016. This was supposed to be a shoe in.. nothing to worry about except where Saccone’s office was going to be at. I mean the Cook Political Report rated the district a PVI of R-11. The goal of the PVI is to compare every congressional district to every other congressional district based on how it has performed in each of the last two presidential elections. In the case of PA-18, it has performed 11 points more Republican than the nation as a whole. The seat had been held by Republican Rep. Tim Murphy for the last 15 years. Murphy, the pro-life candidate, resigned in October amid revelations that he had pressured a woman with whom he was having an extramarital affair to have an abortion. Both candidates ran as pro-life, pro-gun and anti-Pelosi, so it was hard to pen a Democratic agenda on the young Lamb, but they tried. The GOP poured over $10 million dollars in advertisements doing just that. In the end, the conservative blue collar workers from the 18th Congressional District in Pennsylvania put down their guns and bibles, then picked up their common sense. Joining with an enthusiastic and vibrant Democratic voting block, they rejected the politics of the current administration, rejected the war on social security and health care, tore up the narrative on tax reform, cast out the hypocrisy and cynicism and then threw down the gauntlet letting the rest of America know that enough is enough. Congratulations Representative Connor Lamb (D) and congratulations 18th Congressional District of Pennsylvania, for showing us we can make “America Great Again.”
