Don’t Leave Home Without It.

If you plan on attending the big dance Tuesday night at the US Capitol, and your papers are not in order … don’t. Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., has asked U.S. Capitol Police and Attorney General Jeff Sessions to arrest and deport any illegal immigrant who attends President Trump’s first official State of the Union on Tuesday. Yes my brothers,  Immigration and Customs Enforcement police will be there, checking if you are naughty or nice.

Rep. Paul Gosar

The obviously anti-immigration congressman said in no uncertain terms, ““Of all the places where the Rule of Law needs to be enforced, it should be in the hallowed halls of Congress. Any illegal aliens attempting to go through security, under any pretext of invitation or otherwise, should be arrested and deported.” The President is expected to include immigration reform in the state of the union address. Mr Trump had made immigration one of the leading planks of his presidential campaign. In his first 100 days in office, he tried to bar several countries with majority Muslim populations from entering the US. The decision cause a plethora of law suits at the state and federal levels all across the land. In June of last year, he issued an executive order called  “Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States.” The order took immediate effect and persons from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen were barred from entering the US  for 90 days. Last year in December, the Supreme Court ruled that President Trump’s immigration travel ban against six majority-Muslim countries can take full effect while legal challenges against the latest version are still tied up in courts.

Tonight’s planned protest is focused on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program instituted by the Obama administration. Currently DACA is set to expire in March 2018. If Congress or the President dont come to terms by then, the inaction will lead to the potential deportation of hundreds of thousands. The “Dreamers”are people who were brought to this country illegally as children. Many have been here for decades. Critics say deporting these individuals smacks of hypocrisy in light of the fact, this country is a country of immigrants. Politicians and social activist also had harsh words for the Presidents latest proposal concerning DACA. The President said a path to citizenship for up to 1.8 million young people brought into the United States as children will be part of an immigration package that also includes $25 billion for a border wall and other security measures. In addition the measure also seeks to decrease legal immigration by only allowing family immigration sponsorships to include spouses or children, rather than extended family members. Many Democratics are calling the proposal foul, with Senator Durbin (D) Illinois  saying, “Dreamers should not be held hostage to President Trump’s crusade to tear families apart and waste billions of American tax dollars on an ineffective wall. This plan would put the administration’s entire hard-line immigration agenda including massive cuts to legal immigration on the backs of these young people.”
