Fourth Bombing In Austin Texas

A serial bomber is on the loose in Austin, Texas.  Last night a fourth bomb went off injuring two pedestrians as they were cycling. The bomb went off as the bicycles hit a trip wire setting off the explosives. The explosion in an Austin neighborhood Sunday night had “similarities” with the three bombs that detonated in the Texas capital earlier this month. Monday morning, Police Chief Brian Manley said a tripwire mechanism might have been used in the most recent blast and the most recent explosion occurred in a different area of the city. Manley also told residents, “We will not be able to send school buses into the neighborhood on Monday. In addition to that, we’re going to ask the residents in the Travis County neighborhood to stay in your homes tomorrow morning and give us the opportunity to process the scene once the sun comes up.” Police said that while the two men injured in Sunday’s blast, who are both in their twenty’s were seriously hurt, their injuries aren’t considered life-threatening. It is the fourth such bombing in the last month in Austin. While Sunday’s incident was in southwest Austin, the three previous explosions, which killed two people and injured two others, occurred in the East Austin area which has historically been home to black and Hispanic residents. NBC News analyst and former FBI profiler Clint Van Zandt said while it’s not clear whether this latest package explosion was done by the same person responsible for the previous ones, the fact that this one used a tripwire implies the methods used are “evolving, adding “this is something we see with serial offenders, serial killers, serial bombers, serial arsonists. Unfortunately they learn as they go, and they’re wondering what police know so they can change.”
