Welcome to Star Trek. In the not too distant future Googles AI will be able to make appointments and handle routine calls for you while you sit back and relax. Google has just released a video of one such call. It has it’s Google Assistant making an appointment for a haircut from a real hairdresser! But before we view the video, let talk a little about AI. AI is short for artificial intelligence. Many of you have seen the old Terminator movies with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Well Skynet is a an artificial intelligence that has planned to get rid of all humans by sparking a nuclear holocaust. Of course as in most movies the AI is a malevolent soulless machine bent on destroying the Earth, but in real life we are just beginning to scratch the surface of this enigmatic science. Things like autonomous cars, smart speakers and appliances are already here and coming soon, health care, education and law are among the tasks that will be assigned to AI. So sit back, relax and hang on, cause the future is coming to an AI assistant near you.
