What Did You Expect?

From Left to Right: DeEbony Groves, 21, Taurean Sanderlin, 29, Akilah DaSilva, 23 and Joe Perez, 20
James Shaw and daughter.

Travis Reinking, the suspect accused of killing four innocent black people in a Nashville-area Waffle House has been ordered to receive treatment in a mental facility for schizophrenia in hopes that he becomes fit to stand trial. Reinking, butt naked except for a camouflage jacket, in a sneak attack, drew an assault-type rifle and fatally shot two people outside the Waffle House before continuing his rampage inside the restaurant and killing two more people. Although four people were murdered in the slaughter, the consequences of the madman’s action could have been even more devastating if not for one James Shaw Jr. According to witnesses, when Reinking stopped firing for a moment, Shaw jumped into action, seizing the crazed man’s weapon. After taking and throwing the automatic rifle behind the counter, Shaw proceeded to whip that ass. Sometime during the beat down Reinking escaped. He eluded police until the next day, where he was finally apprehended in a wooded area near his Nashville apartment. Mr. Shaw was heralded as a hero. Speaking to reporters after the melee, Shaw had this to say,“Heroes seem kind of like they’re not touchable. If I’m looked at as a regular person, if somebody else is in this situation they have that same thing within them that they can project out also.”

Crazed mass murderer Travis Reinking

Davidson County Criminal Court Judge Mark Fishburn said 29-year-old Travis Reinking poses a substantial threat of harm to the public, if not himself. Dozens of victims, friends and family members filled the courtroom and glimpsed Reinking in person, including James Shaw Jr., who authorities say took that gun and whipped that ass. Earlier this year in May, the family of one of four people killed in a Nashville-area Waffle House in April sued the father of Travis Reinking. The family of Joe Perez filed a civil lawsuit Monday against Jeffrey Reinking in Tazewell County, Ill., where the Reinkings live. The lawsuit states Jeffrey Reinking is responsible in part for the attack because he gave his son several weapons, even after the state of Illinois revoked the suspected gunman’s authorization to own weapons in the state because he was mentally unstable. While Jeffrey Reinking admitted he provided Travis Reinking with weapons, including the rifle police believe was used in the Waffle House attack,  at the time of this report, it’s unclear whether Jeffrey Reinking violated any laws. According to Nashville Police Chief Steve Anderson, “The weapons would not have been lawfully in his hands in Illinois. Now, possessing them in Tennessee, I don’t know that he would have violated any Tennessee law.” Personally, I think if you crazy in Illinois, then you move to Tennessee, you still crazy and shouldn’t be allowed to own weapons, but that seem like common sense to me, what do I know? Anywho, the judge instructed the mental facility to “take whatever measures are reasonably necessary to see that he becomes and retains competency so that the trial in the case can proceed.” They have also been ordered to report to the court, the status of his competency every six months.

About The Victims:

DeEbony Groves, a senior at Belmont University, was shot to death inside the restaurant. She was a star athlete and one of three seniors on her team, and she was a great role model for the other players because of her hard work and dedication to her studies and to her school, said head basketball coach, Kim Kendrick.

Taurean Sanderlin, was a cook at the Waffle House. He was taking a break outside, where he was shot to death when the gunman opened fire. He had worked for Waffle House for five years, but had recently been transferred to the Nashville location.
