You Lived Next To What Town?

John Brown was an American abolitionist who believed in and advocated armed insurrection as the only way to overthrow the institution of slavery in the United States.

Ever been to Griffin, Georgia? Well you might run into Larry Johnson. A former Georgia city official, he stunned current commissioners when he said the N-word at a public meeting. Johnson took the podium at the Griffin City Hall meeting on March 28 to speak regarding a recent proclamation declaring the month of April as Confederate History Month.

“I told you at that time, there were white folks and there were black folks when I was growing up.” Johnson said during the meeting. “There was white trash, my family, and there was “niggertown”. I lived next to “niggertown” town.”

Rodney McCord, a black commissioner said, “You lived next to what town?”

“Nigger town, son, I’m telling you, I’ve changed. I’m no longer white trash and they’re no longer called that.”

Of course McCord was red hot fire. Johnson later clarified his remarks.

“I trying to make a point about a time in my life when was 5 years old playing with other kids about that age, black and white kids not yet touched by cruelties in the world.  In doing so, I used words familiar back then, but I did not get a chance to say, we no longer use those words today, and the world is a better place.”

Well all I can say is,  “Ill be John Brown”
