Casual Oblique Racism?

The term “globalist” has been used at the White House at least three times this week in reference to outgoing Jewish Trump administration officials. It has been raising eyebrows because the word is increasingly used in anti-Semitic contexts. “Globalist” carries an undertone of anti-Semitism for a variety of reasons, not least of which is that it was originally deployed by Steve Bannon, former editor of  Breitbart, a conservative news site, who has a much larger record of dabbling in anti-Semitism according to one source.  Its journalists are ideologically driven, and some of its content has been called misogynistic, xenophobic and racist.  Some far-right outlets have  used the slur against various people, including Cohn and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner. The term has not gone unnoticed by some. During press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders recent press briefing, the term was used several times.  Mick Mulvaney, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget and one of the founding members of the right- wing political group, “Freedom Caucus,” slipped the term in when he was supposedly giving Cohn a heartfelt farewell saying, ” I never expected that the coworker I would work closest, and best, with at the White House would be a “globalist.”  I didn’t add the quotes, Mr. Mulvaney did. Of course the slur did not go unnoticed on social media.
