Kanghua Ren, who broadcasts under the name ReSet, has more than 1 million subscribers on the video sharing platform Youtube. Ren thought it would be a good idea to put toothpaste on Oreo’s cookies and passed them out to a homeless man. Now he faces up to two years in prison for a charge of a crime against moral integrity. Spanish prosecutors are seeking a two year prison term and pursuing an order to pay $37,000 in compensation to the homeless man, an orphan and Romanian national. In the video, Ren scrapes the sweet icing out from the middle of an Oreo cookie before replacing it with toothpaste and does the same to at least two other cookies before putting the cookies back into their packaging. The video then cuts to the outside where Ren is looking for his victim. “Hello sir, do you need help?” Ren asks a man sitting on the sidewalk in Spanish. He gives the man some money, then asks whether he is hungry before handing over what appears to be the package of Oreos. “Thank you very much,” the man says. Later on in the video, Ren say’s, “Look at the positive side, this will help him clean his teeth. I think he hasn’t cleaned them since he became poor.” Now a lot of people play this trick on others, but Ren’s version of the trick struck many as cruel. After learning about the video, police found the homeless man, identified only as Gheorge L., and asked him what had happened? Police say the man told agents he had begun feeling sick after eating the cookies and that he had vomited five minutes later. Like I said, there is stupid and then there is cruel and stupid. Another YouTuber, Logan Paul, faced national scorn after posting a video that showed him laughing after finding a dead body in a Japanese forest. In February of this year, YouTube suspended all advertising on Logan Paul’s channels due to his “pattern of behavior”, since he had recently joked about participating in the Tide pod challenge, removed a fish from his pond to “jokingly give it CPR”, and tasering two dead rats.
