The Bodies Keep Piling Up

When are we going to get it? Another child has lost her life to bullying. I wrote about this last year in December. Since then over 266,000 kids have been the victim of bullying. That right, that’s how many are affected every month. Experts estimate that 4400 kids a year kill themselves because of bullying and about 100 attempt to kill themselves. So around 350 kids a month die because of bullying. Reminds me of gun control, but without the gun. So here is the story of another Ashawnty Davis.  A twelve year old child was found dead of a suicide at the Seed School in Southeast DC. The girl’s roommates had found her unconscious. Paramedics could not revive her. Parents are coming forward and saying bullying is rampant at the SEED School of Washington D.C. and that the school doesn’t do enough to keep students safe. One woman who did not want to be identified says her daughter reported multiple incidents of bullying in the fall of 2017. She eventually ran away from the school. When her mother asked SEED for security camera footage, she learned it was not available. Shay Brown says her son sustained second-degree burns after his roommates burned him with a hot iron. The boys responsible were expelled and she received an incident report from the school. But this came after her son reported bullying incidents multiple times in the weeks prior for which, Brown says no action was taken. These are not isolated incidences. The inmates are controlling the asylum. I know of one family in particular where the child has been transferred multiple times because of bullying. Citing violence not only against other students, but against teachers and faculty. At a well known school near the stadium armory, there have been stories of children assaulting the principal, and security. Teachers are afraid of the personal safety. Getting to their cars becomes a game of cat and mouse, unless the cat decides to trash their car instead. Gangs of youth roam the hallways and there is no semblance of supervision. The big and strong prey on the small and weak. Its just a matter of time before before someone’s child is hurt or maybe even worst. But we as parents keep sending our children into these battlegrounds thinking there is nothing we can do. We forget that those people work for us. Our taxes pay their salaries. We must demand that something be done. I don’t know about you, but I am tired of the hashtags. I am tired of the schools who hope we accept the new norm and of traumatized children hiding a fear they should never have to bear and finally, I am tired of writing about how bullying is responsible for another dead child.
